Performances. Art. Stories. Mapping the pandemic to show us the full narrative of how/why COVID-19 impacted communities of color the most.
Welcome to Memorial Mapping! You’re invited to attend a FREE explorational exhibition of the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on YOUR community!
This past year, our communities have faced unprecedented challenges. Some thought the pandemic leveled the playing field for many. But in truth, it revealed more than ever how the systemic inequities targeting our communities historically are clearly still showing up today.
We want to help each other understand our experiences through art, storytelling, and just joy. Memorial Mapping is a dynamic research/community engagement effort that explores the correlations between COVID-19 in New Haven’s redlined communities, and access to health, safety, and wellbeing resources.
LINEUP:
A special musical performance by local artist Thabisa.
Tasty grab-n-go meals from a local culinary artist.
Unprecedented pandemic-era photography from a city-wide recognized photographer/visionary.
Amazing, fun, and informative StoryMaps report highlighting local journal entries on the community’s experience throughout the pandemic.
Community Journal: a Diary Disk installation.
AND MORE...fun, artistic, storytelling-based activities.
Working with the Department of Cultural Affairs and the City of New Haven, we are inviting community members to showcase culture around the pandemic and spark discussions on how the city can memorialize this era.
Hope to see you at our first (of many) exhibition!
Sending love and care,
Memorial Mapping Team
