We are so pleased to welcome back the Screaming Orphans to our Scottish Cultural Center for an amazing night of Celtic music. The Screaming Orphans are 4 sisters raised in the magic of County Donegal, Ireland. There’s a great tradition of music found there, especially in the Gaeltacht or Irish-speaking areas which have produced Clannad, Altan and Enya. They’ve traveled Europe, America and Canada, appearing on David Letterman and many other shows and also recorded with Peter Gabriel and on Joni Mitchell’s “Magdalene Laundries” for the Chieftains “Tears of Stone” album. Their 2017 folk album Taproom charted No. 1 on the iTunes World Music Charts and in the Top 10 of Billboard’s World Album Charts. Their 2019 album Life in a Carnival charted on the top 25 of iTunes Pop Music charts in the U.S. and again top 10 of the Billboard World Albums Chart. Sisters Joan, Grainne, Angela and Mary Therese will provide us with another amazing night of folk, pop, Celtic and worlds music featuring more songs and ballads “they learned from their Mam!” https://screamingorphans.com/ The society was established in 1979 and since then we have been committed to supporting the Dunedin Middle and High School Pipe Bands, and City Highland Dancing programs, in order to help provide an educational path to pursue the love of the Scottish Arts. Many of our more than 200 members hail from the British Isles adding their knowledge of the customs and traditions we all enjoy.
