The Commonwealth Brass Quintet is one of the most highly respected and sought-after brass chamber group in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Commonwealth Brass Quintet presents “A Tribute To America” Join us for an entertaining concert of music by American composers and patriotic music to celebrate our country’s birthday! This concert will be held outdoors on the beautiful Grace Church parish green. Rain date: Monday, July 5, 2021. The Commonwealth Brass has gained a reputation as one of the most highly respected and sought-after chamber groups in the mid-Atlantic region. The Ensemble's entertaining style and varied repertoire has dazzled audiences everywhere they perform. All members performed for significant world events in the Washington, D.C. area and around the world as members of D.C. military bands. They are also active performers, clinicians and soloists throughout the United States. Chuck Seipp served 32 years with The U.S. Army Band. He toured and recorded throughout Europe with organist, Diane Bish. Through CJ Seipp Music Publications, Chuck markets his brass arrangements and recording of his published “Wedding Book” which proves to be a valuable resource. The Seipp/Sheets Trumpet and Organ Duo are active enjoying performing concerts across the country. Dr. Seipp holds degrees from Kansas University and Catholic University. Chuck is leader of the Commonwealth Brass and a Yamaha Performing Artist. Woody English hails from Coldwater Michigan, attended High School at The Interlocken Arts Academy and received his music degree from Eastern Michigan University. He retired from The United States Army Band as Sergeant Major and served as principal cornet, soloist, national bugler and member of The U.S. Army Brass Quintet for 34 years. He has performed locally with The Commonwealth Brass, Washington Ballet. Classical Brass, Washington Opera and The National Symphony Orchestra. Rick Lee has been a French hornist in the U.S. Army Band since 1999. He became a member of The U.S. Army Brass Quintet in 2015. As a busy freelancer in the Washington D.C. region, Rick regularly performs at the John F Kennedy Center as well as countless other regional concert venues. Before joining the U.S. Army Band, Rick was principal hornist in the Hof Symphony Orchestra in Germany. Scott Shelsta, retired from US Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” has begun a new career as an “1890s American,” where he tells about the days of historic bandleaders Patrick Gilmore, John Philip Sousa, Arthur Pryor, and Allessandro Liberatti. He earned the BS in Music Education from Augustana College and received a Masters Degree in Brasswind Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado. Shelsta’s forte as a trombone artist centers on the turn-of-the-century style of playing. Oklahoma native Jack Tilbury was a member of The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” from 1972 to 2005. He served as Tuba Section Leader, Band Announcer, Concert Band Group Leader, Unit Sergeant Major/Enlisted Leader and tubist for the U.S. Army Brass Quintet for over 30 years. For 15 years he was principal tuba with the Washington Chamber Symphony. He holds a BME Degree from Wichita State University and a MM Degree from Catholic University.
