Fatal Crash On Southern State Pkwy: Police

NORTH MERRICK, NY — A one-car crash on the Southern State Parkway killed one person and hurt several others on Sunday afternoon, state police said. A vehicle left the roadway and rammed a pole near exit 22 on the westbound side of the highway, police said. It happened at approximately 1:15 p.m. The driver and two passengers were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. A third passenger is in serious condition. A fourth passenger, who was brought to a hospital, died of the injuries. The person was unidentified by police. The State Police is asking anyone with information regarding the collision to call 631 756-3300.
