Press release from the Town of Dedham: 11/29/2021 5:20 PM Download the Weekly Update PDF 1. New Trash Carts Delivered to Homes, Beginning Today Through End of Week Residents can expect to see their new, 96-gallon trash carts delivered to their homes as early as Monday, November 29, 2021. The Town has contracted with Cascade Cart Solutions (Cascade) to produce and deliver the new carts, and to remove the old carts for potential credits back to the Town. A process has been designed by members of the Town and Cascade to make an efficient exchange of carts and to ensure residents are not without a trash cart. Following the regular trash schedule, residents will place their trash outside on their trash collection day and Waste Management will pick up the trash for disposal. Following behind Waste Management will be a team from Cascade who will remove the old carts. A separate team will follow the same routes for assembly and delivery of the new, 96-gallon trash carts on the same day. Please do not take in your old trash cart. Each Dedham residence will be given one, 96-gallon cart to replace the existing 64-gallon cart. The new trash carts are designed to be unique to Dedham; crimson red with white lettering. Once the new trash cart has been delivered, trash will only be collected from the new cart. Overflow bags may still be used for excess household trash. No additional trash carts are available at this time. Additional information about the new trash carts and delivery to each residence is available on our website at www.dedham-ma.gov/recyclingtrashupdates. Download a PDF of Frequently Asked Questions about the new trash carts and delivery process Anyone with questions about the new trash carts or if they do not receive their new cart on their scheduled trash collection day, beginning the week of November 29, 2021, is asked to call the DPW at 781-751-9350. Additional Information About Trash and Recycling Updates: Beginning on January 1, 2022, residents will pay for the pick-up and disposal of white goods and bulky items at the time of scheduling directly with Waste Management. Additionally, residents will receive a larger trash cart to replace the existing 64-gallon cart. Developed as part of the Town's ongoing process to review solid waste and recycling options in Dedham, these changes are expected to improve service to residents, help control increasing costs for disposal, and continue to support the Town's environmental goals. To learn more about Trash and Recycling and to participate in future public discussions, please visit www.dedham-ma.gov/trash_recycling, and subscribe to future email notifications from the Town at www.dedham-ma.gov/subscribe and select "Recycling & Trash". 2. Hybrid Community Celebration to Release Draft of Master Plan The following press release was submitted to the Town of Dedham by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) (Download PDF) The two-year Dedham Master Plan process, Designing Dedham 2030, is nearing its end. The draft Master Plan is ready for release and the Community Celebration will kick-off a public review period. On Saturday, December 4th, a hybrid in-person and virtual Community Celebration will be hosted at the Dedham Middle School and on Zoom from 11:00am to 1:00pm to review the draft Designing Dedham 2030 Master Plan. Attendees can participate in person or via Zoom at the same event. Spanish interpretation will be available. Other languages will be made available upon request. At the meeting, attendees can expect a brief overview of the master plan process and draft content including the vision statement and all master plan topic chapters, a question-and-answer panel hosted by the Master Plan Committee, and an informal open house to conclude the meeting. Master Plan topics include: public health and livability; land use and zoning; economic development; housing; natural, cultural, historic resources; transportation and connectivity; community facilities and services; and governance. Door prizes and raffle drawings will add to the celebration. Registration for the event is available at https://bit.ly/DD2030-12-4. Community input and feedback has defined the content of this plan, and community feedback on the draft plan now is equally as important. The Community Celebration will begin a 45-day public comment period that will be open until January 18th, 2022. During this time, you are invited to grab or download a copy of any chapter you would like to review or the full document. You can send comments to MAPC Project Manager, Josh Fiala at [email protected]. Specific links for downloads and additional information will be available at the project website beginning on December 4th. For more information, visit www.DesigningDedham2030.org. All of the events of the Master Plan add to the new ways that the town has engaged people in the two-year Master Plan process. A hybrid Community Celebration is another example of the inclusive engagement that has been a core feature of this process. Over this two-year process, a visioning workshop attracted over three hundred of participants in 2020, a visioning survey conducted over the same time period received 1,100 responses and a second, more detailed, survey gathered input from nearly 800 people. Last winter a series of three virtual open houses were hosted to gather input on draft topic goals with hundreds of participants strengthening the goals with their input. This fall a virtual open house was hosted to gather detailed input on draft strategies with over 50 attendees. Additional Focus Group meetings and project team Office Hours were also held to gather feedback on the draft strategies. The town has also hosted two virtual youth focus groups in partnership with Dedham's Youth Commission and has performed individual interviews to expand the inclusiveness of participation. The Master Plan Committee has met monthly throughout this process and will be recognized at the Community Celebration for all of their efforts. An Outreach Working Group has also been contributing many volunteer hours to help promote events and engage the community throughout this process. They will also be recognized at the Community Celebration. About Designing Dedham 2030 Designing Dedham 2030 is a town-wide master plan being developed to guide the future improvements and economic development in the town, using goals and ideas generated by community members. A 12-member Master Plan Committee is working with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) to produce this plan. The Master Plan Committee is made up of representatives from the Planning Board, Select Board, School Committee, Parks and Recreation Commission, as well as several members at large who were appointed by either the Planning Board or Select Board. For more information please contact Dedham Planning Director Jeremy Rosenberger, at [email protected] and 781-751-9241, or MAPC Project Manager Josh Fiala at [email protected] and 617-933-0760. 5.
