BOSTON, MA — A man brought a loaded pistol to Logan International Airport Friday, NBC Boston reports. The Transportation Security Administration said that the gun is the second to be confiscated at the airport during the Thanksgiving travel rush, and the 17th to be confiscated at the airport in 2021.
The Friday incident took place at 5:30 a.m. at Logan's Terminal B, according to a TSA news release. Massachusetts State Police said they found a loaded 9mm pistol, which had a round in the chamber and seven more in the magazine, in the backpack of an unnamed man from Maine. Authorities said the man had an expired concealed firearms permit, and received a summons for illegal possession of a firearm.
Even gun owners with active permits are not allowed to bring firearms through security checkpoints at any U.S. airport.
On Wednesday, the TSA stopped a woman with a loaded .357 Magnum with five rounds inside, U.S. News reports. State police were called and the woman was cited on a state charge, according to a TSA tweet.
TSA officers have discovered a total of 17 guns at Logan in 2021, a big leap from the 11 discovered in 2020, and just under the 18 found in 2019, NBC Boston reported.
The incidents occurred during Logan's busiest travel week since the start of the pandemic.
