NEW HAVEN, CT —In the pre-dawn hours of Thanksgiving Day, police got 911 calls about a Sherman Avenue shooting, authorities said. It was almost 1:30 Thanksgiving morning when police learned a man had been shot on Sherman between Elm Street and Whalley Avenue, according to New Haven police spokesperson Scott Shumway. A "concerned citizen" led cops to Lemuel Hamilton, 45, of New Haven, who had been struck by gunfire, Shumway said. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was being treated for life-threatening injuries, until early Tuesday when he was pronounced deceased, Shumway said. Hamilton was described by friends as a talented airbrush artist. On his Facebook page, he notes that he graduated from Hamden High School. The New Haven Police Major Crimes Unit and Bureau of Identification responded to the scene and continues to investigate.
