MANASSAS, VA — A man who was shot on Saturday in Manassas has died of his injuries, the Prince William County Police Department announced on Tuesday morning. A woman has been arrested and charged with second degree murder in connection with the shooting, authorities said.
Police identified the victim as 49-year-old Travis Kelly Deardorff of Manassas. Lisa Gaye Myers, a 56-year-old Manassas resident, was arrested over the weekend and initially charged with aggravated malicious wounding. She was also charged with second degree murder on Monday after authorities learned that Deardorff died as a result of his injuries.
Officers originally responded to a home in the 13500 block of Bradford Lane in Manassas around 6 p.m. on Saturday, according to the police report. Authorities claimed that two people, who were later identified as Deardorff and Gaye, were involved in an argument.
"During the altercation, the accused went into a bedroom where she retrieved a firearm and shot the victim," police said. "The accused immediately contacted emergency services."
Deardorff was originally flown to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died as a result of his injuries, police said.
The accused, who was later identified as Myers, was taken into custody. She is now being held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. Her court date is pending.
