Suspect In Manchester Shooting Nabbed After Crash

MANCHESTER, CT — A man spent the weekend in the Manchester Police Department lockup on a half-million-dollar bond as part of a shooting investigation on Lilley Street, police said. At about 9 p.m Friday, a 56 -year-old woman walked into the lobby of the Manchester Police Department with a gunshot wound to her hand, according to a police report. The woman told police she sustained the injury during an altercation with a man at her residence on Lilley Street, a report indicates. She was transported to Hartford Hospital and police checked her residence, but the man had already fled the scene in the car, police said. He was identified as William Ramos Sr., a 63-year-old out of New Britain, police said. After getting a tip that Ramos had returned to the Lilley Street home, officers converged on the area at about 2 a.m. and located a gray Subaru Outback that matched the description of the vehicle used to initially flee the area, police said. As officers approached the Subaru, Ramos sped away and fled the scene, according to a report. His car rammed a parked car and a police cruiser and raced south on Main Street at a high rate of speed, according to a report. No injuries were reported. At approximately 2:06 a.m., state troopers saw the Subaru heading west on Interstate 84 and it crashed near Exit 39A, according to a report. Ramos scurried into a wooded area nearby, but was tracked down by a sate police canine unit, according to a report. Ramos was transported to UConn Health John Dempsey Hospital for injuries sustained during the initial altercation in Manchester, police said. According to police, he had an injury to his right hand that appears to be related to the round he fired in Manchester. After being released from the hospital, Ramos was transported to the Manchester Police Department and held over the weekend on a $500,000 bond, police said. He was to appear in court Monday.
