HAMDEN, CT — Both students who were involved in a fight that led to a stabbing near Hamden High School on Monday have been arrested, according to police.
Police responded to a report of a stabbing near a city bus stop on Dixwell Avenue, adjacent to Hamden High School, around 2:15 p.m., according to Detective Sean J. Dolan.
An investigation found that two students were involved in a fight just off campus, according to Dolan. One of the students stabbed the other student in the back during the fight, Dolan said.
The 13-year-old suspect, a ninth-grade student at Hamden High School, was treated for a minor cut on his hand, according to Dolan. He was charged with second-degree assault and assigned a Dec. 13 court date at New Haven Superior Court for Juvenile Matters.
The 14-year-old victim, also a ninth-grade student, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of his injuries and was in stable condition, according to Dolan. He was charged with third-degree assault and assigned a Dec. 13 court date at New Haven Superior Court for Juvenile Matters.
Dolan said police will continue to have an increased presence in the area of Hamden High School.
