HERNDON, VA — With the Thanksgiving break behind them, many college students from Herndon are back at campus finishing up their fall semester classes and preparing for finals. While some students are aiming for academic honors this fall, others have already been recognized for their achievements. Here are some of the college students from Herndon who have achieved academic accolades at their schools: Samuel Clyne of Herndon was a member of the record-breaking Class of 2025 to enroll this fall at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Enrollment for first-time freshman at the school increased by 19.6 percent, making the Class of 2025 the first to exceed 5,000 students. Clyne is a pursuing a bachelor of science in pre business. Kiarra Murillo of Herndon was a member of the record-breaking Class of 2025 to enroll this fall at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Enrollment for first-time freshman at the school increased by 19.6 percent, making the Class of 2025 the first to exceed 5,000 students. Murillo is a pursuing a bachelor of science in pre business. A graduate of Oakton High School, Harkin is majoring in instrumental performance at the Berea, Ohio campus. He earned a $21,000 President's Scholarship from BW in recognition of his high school academic achievements. Mary Donnelly of Herndon is a member of the class of 2025 at Loyola University Maryland. As a first-year student, Donnelly is taking part in Messina, Loyola's living learning program. Using the common text of "Messina is Heartland" by Sarah Smarsh, students are exposed to an eye-opening memoir of working-class poverty in America. This is to help them obtain a deeper understanding of the way class shapes the country. Jackie Redding of Herndon was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Membership in the society is by invitation only and requires that students be nominated by a chapter. Only 7.5 percent of juniors and 10 percent of seniors are eligible for membership.
