STERLING, VA — One home was burglarized, a car was stolen, and several other cars were broken into on Tuesday morning in Sterling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. The crimes occurred in the Potomac Lakes community, authorities said in a report. Initially, deputies responded to a home in the 46400 block of Springwood Court around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday to investigate a car theft. "The homeowner was awakened by an alert from their home surveillance system," the sheriff's office said in a report on Tuesday. "The homeowner went to further investigate and discovered his vehicle was missing from the driveway and that the subject had attempted to enter the home." The homeowner's vehicle was recovered nearby, police said. The sheriff's office noted that the keys were left in the vehicle before it was stolen. Another resident on nearby Saffron Court said that someone entered their home overnight. The sheriff's office believes that the burglar entered an unlocked car parked outside the home and used a garage door opener to access the house. A purse was reported missing, police said. The sheriff's also said they are investigating larcenies from other vehicles on Springwood Court, Saffron Court, and Oakhurst Court. "Residents are reminded to remove all items from their vehicle, including garage door openers and key fobs, when not in use," the sheriff's office wrote in a news release. "If your vehicle has an integrated garage door opener, please try to park your vehicle in the garage or well-lit area."
