NORTHERN VIRGINIA — Education company Tinkergarten is holding Lantern Walks in communities across Northern Virginia in December, with the goal of helping children enjoy the natural world.
The Lantern Walks, in their 9th year, will take place the weekend of Dec. 11-12. Each walk will have a leader to guide the groups of children who will learn about stars and planets, sing songs, and hear stories.
"This inspiring and beloved tradition helps children learn to embrace change and remember that, when they are in community with the natural world and with one another, they have the strength and light to overcome any challenges," Tinkergarten said.
Families can purchase Lantern Kits on Tinkergarten's website. The kits include directions and supplies to turn any glass jar into a colorful lantern. The kits also include invitations to Tinkergarten's upcoming events. The kits cost $10 or three for $25.
Founded in 2012, Tinkergarten's play-based outdoor curriculum guides parents in raising their children. Through weekly sessions and an at-home curriculum, Tinkergarten aims to make outdoor play doable for every family.
