Morning, neighbors! Danielle Fallon here with a fresh edition of the Burlington Daily. First, today's weather: Cloudy most of the time. High: 39 Low: 30. Here are the top stories today in Burlington: Around 80 restaurants have partnered with Vermont Everyone Eats to offer free food to people experiencing food insecurity. Burlington-based software company Localvore has made it possible for Vermonters to order food discreetly. Using the Localvore app, participants can place an order ahead of time and pick it up contact-free. (WPTZ)In Burlington School District, multilingualism is seen as an opportunity, rather than a hurdle to be overcome. The district has prioritized a co-teaching model, where mainstream classroom teachers partner with English language learning specialists to provide lessons for all children. There are over 40 languages represented among Burlington students and their families; nearly one in five kids is an English learner. (Vermont Public Radio) South Burlington Fire Chief Terry Francis offered his expert advice on fire safety during the holidays. Francis' top tips: clean out your ovens before cooking a big holiday meal, keep your Christmas tree watered, and check your Christmas lights for ambient heat. The chief also advised that home heating systems must be checked every two years; the temperature should be kept at a minimum of 55 degrees to prevent pipes from freezing.
