Here are the top stories in Woonsocket today: The Governor and RI Foundation announced that $4.5million in COVID relief funds are available for nonprofits in Rhode Island. The grants range from $25,000 up to $100,000 and can be used to provide services or direct assistance to individuals or communities, including housing, homelessness prevention, behavioral health services, access to health care, job training, food insecurity, and child care. That's a wide range of opportunities Woonsocket! RI Foundation is managing the grant process. The deadline is Dec.6th. (WJAR) Is Omicron here already? It's the latest COVID variant. The Governor is preparing for the worst and Dr. Chan from the RI Department of Health doesn't believe it's here — yet. Dr. Chan believes that it's inevitable. "The safety and the health of the people in the State of Rhode Island have always been the highest priority," said Governor McKee. Health officials are asking residents not to panic because there are still unanswered questions. (Turn to 10) I filled my gas tank this weekend at $3.40 a gallon. That's almost $50 to fill the tank! Local gas prices are three cents higher than the national average, according to AAA of Southern New England. Gas pain is hitting many bank accounts hard. This time last year gas was around $2 a gallon. (WPRI)The grocery delivery service offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) during the pandemic last year is back this year. About 2,300 BCBSRI members have been receiving a bag filled with groceries once a week. Fresh fruit and fresh vegetables are no cost to program participants. Millonzi Fine Catering is a partner and the company president says, "It really assists with food insecurity but also you're really helping people from an economic standpoint as well as a nutritional standpoint."
