CONCORD, NH — Granite Staters can now order free, rapid COVID-19 tests for home use with a new program launched by state health officials. While supplies last, free kits can be ordered as part of the Say Yes! COVID Test program launched on Monday. The kits will give users the opportunity to test for the coronavirus before meeting with others to stop the spread. The initiative is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Quidel, and healthcare technology company CareEvolution. Quidel makes rapid flu tests used by physicians and nurses, according to officials. "As the fall surge continues, rapid, self-administered testing can give residents one more way to help reduce the spread of COVID-19," DHHS Commissioner Lori Shibinette said. "Routine testing offers the best chance of early identification of COVID-19. Residents can swab the front of their nose and know the results of the test in ten minutes and in the privacy of their own home." Say Yes! COVID Test program website. Preliminary Injunction Issued On Vaccine Mandate A lawsuit has temporarily stopped a federal vaccine mandate for hospital workers and medical facilities receiving federal funds in New Hampshire. On Monday, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri issued an order granting a request for a preliminary injunction against the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services vaccine mandate. A future trial is expected. During this time, the federal government will be banned from enforcing the vaccine mandate against or within the state of New Hampshire and nine plaintiff states, until further notice. "This is a big win for New Hampshire's health care system," Gov. Chris Sununu said. "Nursing homes were at risk of closure if the Biden mandate remained in place. This helps maintain the staff New Hampshire needs to care for our loved ones." Arts Orgs Receive Grants The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts awarded six organizations $37,220 in funding through its Folklife and Traditional Arts Project Grants program for the fiscal year 2022. The programs include dancing, storytelling, music, crafts, food, and more. All funded projects must include presentations by traditional artists, cultural specialists, community scholars, or folklorists.
