EVANSTON, IL — A Chicago man was struck by gunfire late Sunday in Evanston's second shooting of the night, police said. Shortly after 11:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to multiple calls of gunshots fired near the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Howard Street, according to an Evanston police spokesperson. A 29-year-old gunshot victim officers found at the scene was taken to a local hospital by Evanston Fire Department personnel, police said. He remained hospitalized Tuesday but was expected to survive. Cmdr. Ryan Glew said investigators do not think the man's shooting is connected to the deadly "targeted attack" on teenagers at a gas station near Green Bay Road and Asbury Avenue, which left a 17-year-old dead and four others between the ages of 14 and 18 wounded. The man who was shot told police he was in the 100 block of Chicago Avenue when he encountered a group, he said. "As he walked away from the group, he felt that one of them shot at him for an unknown reason," Glew said. "The victim was struck at least twice."
