GRESHAM, OR —Pet Supplies Plus, which recently opened in Gresham, will be hosting its Grand Opening celebration this weekend, the store has announced. The event will feature special prize giveaways and sale prices. The store, located at 1152 NW Civic Dr., has been opened by local entrepreneurs Tom and Julie Meehan. Though locally owned, Pet Supplies Plus is the largest independent pet store in the nation with over 590 locations in 36 states. According to a release, The store features natural foods, toys, goods, hassle-free services and amenities like: do-it-yourself-pet wash stations, a grooming salon and carry-out service in which team members carry heavy items to customers' cars. Each member of the knowledgeable pet-care team is extensively trained in the areas of natural and holistic foods and will be able to answer a broad range of questions about dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and fish, according to management. Pet parents also are welcome to shop with their dogs at the store. Tom Meehan said he had worked in the retail industry throughout his career, but was ready to open his own business. He and Julie were animal lovers and frequent customers of Pet Supplies Plus, and they decided Gresham was the perfect spot for their new store. "The most exciting and fulfilling part of joining the Gresham community will be sharing our passion for animals with the local neighbors who own pets," Tom Meehan said. "Our ultimate goal is to provide genuine friendly customer service to both pet owners and their pets, not to mention our vast variety of top-notch and affordable products." Tom Meehan said the store plans to partner with local animal shelters, rescue organizations and nonprofits to host year-round adoption events, fundraisers and pet food and product drives. This weekend's Grand Opening will take place on Saturday and Sunday. On both days, customers will have a a shot at winning a complimentary, one-year supply of dog or cat food. Also, there will be free nail trims available for dogs, the store owners said. Also, on Saturday, customers will receive mystery scratch cards, where they can win between $5 and $50. On Sunday, the first 100 customers who enter the store will receive a coupon for a free, small bag of Redford Naturals dog or cat food.
