CHICAGO — Don't get caught up in the city's seasonal-affected towing order that starts in the wee hours Wednesday. Officials put out their annual warning to drivers that getting caught parking between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. regardless of the weather — and any time show is 2-inches deep — on 107 miles of main streets between Friday and April 1 could cost them at least $235 and a trip to the auto pound. The parking ban is billed as a cautionary regulation to ensure plows can clear streets during heavy snows, a lasting legacy of traffic snarling blizzards of yore. Parking ban scofflaws face $60 tickets, a $150 towing charge and $25-a-day impound fee. If it happens to you, check the city's towed-vehicles database to find your ride.
