Press release from San Diego County Sheriff's Department: 11/30/2021 1:25 AM On Monday, November 30th, just after 4:30 PM, Ramona deputies received a call that a female had been shot in the leg at her residence in the 2100 block of Walnut St in Ramona. When deputies responded, they found a female in the front yard of the residence bleeding from her calf from an apparent gunshot wound. Initially the female indicated she had been struck by an errant round fired from another property. Paramedics responded and transported the female to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. Deputies conducted a canvas of the area contacting nearby neighbors. Neighbors indicated the female had been in an argument with an male just before hearing a gunshot from the property. A male subject was then observed leaving the area in a vehicle. No other persons were observed shooting in the area. While responding to the scene, deputies identified a vehicle associated with the property quickly leaving the area. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, later identified as 57-year-old John Romeo, was detained for questioning. Romero lives at the same property as the female victim. During the contact, deputies located a usable quantity of narcotics on Romeo's person. Romeo was arrested for narcotics possession and a search of his vehicle was conducted. During the search of Romeo's vehicle a loaded 9mm handgun was located inside his vehicle. Romeo was identified as a prior convicted felon and was currently out on bail. After finding the firearm, Romeo was also arrested for numerous weapons related charges. Romero was booked into custody at San Diego Central Jail. The female later refused to provide any further information on how she sustained the wound. At this time it is unknown how the female sustained the gunshot wound.
