Hello, neighbors! Geoff Campbell here with your Wednesday copy of the Scottsdale Daily. First, today's weather: Sunny and remaining warm. High: 82 Low: 54. Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale: Could the Valley see a 21 percent increase in home values during 2022? A report in AZ Big Media says yes. "Phoenix ranks second for the hottest housing market in 2021, following Austin, Texas, according to Zillow's economists and real estate experts." The report adds that the annual appreciation in Phoenix "was second-fastest in August 2021 at 31.8 percent." In addition, three Scottsdale neighborhoods put the city on the list of the eight best places to live in Metro Phoenix. (AZ Big Media) The video is clear! Mark Kroeppler saved a Great Blue Heron off the island in Chapparal Lake, closest to Chapparal Road. But, according to KPNX, the rescue started with daily park visitor Tom Lancione, who explained, "I saw the heron tangled in the fishing line right on the other side... the more he struggled, the worse it was going to get." Finally, Kroeppler, a Liberty Wildlife volunteer, was called and deftly extricated the bird from the snare. Kreoppler reminded fishers not to leave tangled lines on the shore or to discard them in the lake. (12news.com KPNX) The concessions workers' strike at Sky Harbor has crossed into its second week. According to reporting on AZ Central, the Unite Here Local 11 members employed by HMS Host have extended their permission to strike. They "continued to picket, chant and hold a drum line" in terminals 3 and 4, and they "plan to march and chant at the Ticketing/Departures level and hand out 'Strike Alert' leaflets at all pre-security gates." Reportedly, they continue to seek "fair raises, affordable health insurance, employer-paid retirement plan and contract language for equal opportunity and protection."
