DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A Sandy Springs man could spend up to 30 years in jail for trafficking three kilograms of methamphetamine in Douglasville, the Douglas County District Attorney's Office said. On July 14, 2020, an informant with the Douglasville Police Department arranged to buy three kilograms of meth at a local hotel in Douglas County with Erik Hernandez, the man convicted of drug trafficking. Police set up a sting operation at the hotel while they waited for Hernandez to show up. Once the informant confirmed that Hernandez was there, police arrested him in the lobby of the hotel where he had a grey drawstring book bag with three kilograms of meth, totaling a street value of $43,500, the release said. He also had more than $2,300 in cash. Hernandez confirmed to police that he had previously sold meth to the informant, the release said. "The devastation caused by drug addiction impacts our entire community. Our ability to hold these individuals accountable allows us to keep our county safe," Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine said. Sentencing will be at a later date, but Hernandez faces a maximum sentence of 30 years.
