I just read an article about payment to musicians through Spotify. Young people whine a lot. I remember when you had to write good songs by memory (cuz no one could record) then find a place to make your demo (paid out of pocket by the hour) Then you had to play support shows and hand out your tape (collect em off the club floor after they got tossed) After all that work you were possibly approached by some indie label kid that would change your demo’s song order, add art and call it an EP. This would lead you to being on college radio that no one listened to but they played your song around 1am 3:30am and noon during some guys “pure local” radio show (usually the same guy that owns the indie label you are “signed” to. So after all that you uhhhh still work at the hardware store. Nowadays kids be like “I made this on my laptop, it’s fire” “It took two hours to put those loops together” They want a penny for every time someone streams it.
Music and art don’t make money they make culture. Just saying.
