Forming studio band for income

I'm a bassist and multi-instrumentalist with 25 years experience. I want to see if I can start a band that records for the sole purpose of publishing and licensing, with the intent of generating extra income. We might even do paid gigs if the event is right for us. So basically, we get together in a room full of instruments, write a ton of catchy tunes, and see who wants them. If we never get to a point where we make money from it, then it'll still be a good reason to practice consistently and hone our craft over a wide array of genres.
