The Salvation Army presents Hope Marches On: an evening with The Southern Territorial Brass Band The Salvation Army invites you to spend an evening with The Southern Territorial Brass Band. This free concert is open to the public - all are welcome! About The Southern Territorial Band: The USA Southern Territorial Band represents the fifteen states that form the geographically expansive USA Southern Territory with members traveling hundreds of miles for just three rehearsals and performances each year! A high caliber of musicianship and a strong motivation for an effective music ministry are hallmarks of these men and women. Beginning with the commencement of the USA Southern Territory in 1927, the USA Southern Territorial Band has been closely linked with the history of the Salvation Army in the South. The Territorial Band has traveled extensively throughout its history. In 1990 the band represented America at The Salvation Army’s International Congress in London, England, where they participated in programs at Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena, Westminster Central Hall, and a special performance at Buckingham Palace. In 1996 the Band returned to tour England and Scotland and five years later toured Brazil. In 2006 the band was featured at a Congress in Russia, celebrating 15 years of the Army’s work in that country. The band also participated in the 2016 North American Brass Band Festival held in Long Beach, California and were featured at the Boscombe Easter Convention during their UK tour in 2018. The band’s main mission is to support Corps and Divisions within the Southern Territory - which it does by traveling extensively across the Territory from Oklahoma to West Virginia, from Texas to Florida and all points in between. The fellowship of the band is an important aspect of it’s ministry, as well as the spiritual renewal which takes place whenever the band prepares for a ministry weekend. The band contains many Divisional Music Directors and Salvation Army employees, as well as teachers, accountants, two Salvation Army officers, and two retirees! Also included in the band’s ranks are a number of composers, with five being featured in the band’s current repertoire. Nick Simmons-Smith succeeded Dr. Richard Holz as Bandmaster of the USA Southern Territorial Band in 2009. Nick is from Chelmsford, England and is a 5th generation Salvationist. He serves as the Territorial Music Secretary for the USA Southern Territory and in that position, he is responsible for the Music and Creative Arts programming in the South. The Southern Territorial Band has several recordings to its credit, the most recent of which are: Songs of Hope (2019) - Listen on Spotify War and Peace (2016) - Listen on Spotify
