Description
Join us for a family-friendly Story Hour at the taproom with The Ninth Night of Hanukkah author Erica Perl! We are thrilled to welcome author Erica Perl to City-State for our December Story Hour event!Erica is the author of numerous early-reader books, chapter books, middle grade novels and picture books, including the festive and inspiring The Ninth Night of Hanukkah, which follows siblings Rachel and Max as they navigate their first Hanukkah in a new apartment. The Ninth Night of Hanukkah is about community, asking for help, and celebrating the people who step up as helpers. Along with the book reading and Q&A, the event will feature a special activity helping kids honor the helpers in their own lives. Inspired by the many heroes who have helped friends, family and neighbors during the pandemic, the book suggests a ninth night of Hanukkah dedicated to people who give light to others. Erica wrote an op-ed on the idea that first appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle and was interviewed by NPR’s Ari Shapiro on All Things Considered. ABOUT THE EVENTThe event is free and open to the public, but we request that you RSVP so we know how many people to expect. Flights and pints of City-State’s full lineup of beers will be available during the event, and there will also be snacks and house-made non-alcoholic beverages for kids. Pre-order a signed copy of the book and you’ll get $5 beers during the event! Select the “Free RSVP + Signed Book Pre-Order” option on Eventbrite. ABOUT THE BOOKIt's Hanukkah, and Max and Rachel are excited to light the menorah in their family's new apartment. But, unfortunately, their Hanukkah box is missing. Luckily, their neighbors are happy to help, offering thoughtful and often humorous stand-in items each night. And then, just as Hanukkah is about to end, Max and Rachel have a brilliant idea for how to say thanks to everyone who's helped them. ABOUT THE AUTHORErica is president of the D.C. Children’s Authors Guild and the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Jewish Book Award and three Sydney Taylor medals. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her family.
