Description
Join the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and Alexandria Spokeswomen for a holiday lights ride or walk. It's that time of year again! Join the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and Alexandria Spokeswomen for a free, family-friendly bike ride or walk around Del Ray. The residents of lovely Del Ray put on a great holiday light show every year, and we plan to see it on bike or on foot! The walk will start in front of the Verizon building at 1316 Mt. Vernon Avenue. Walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. Children and youth are welcome, but we ask that children younger than 10 be accompanied by an adult. Families with strollers are welcome. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome too! This registration is for the walk. If you'd prefer to bike instead, please register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/eleventh-annual-alexandria-holiday-lights-ride-walk-tickets-218914929447. Please bring a flashlight or reflective safety vest if you have one. Bonus points if you wear or bring holiday lights! Please also bring whatever else you need for a leisurely, 60-minute stroll. If you're not fully vaccinated, please bring a face covering as well. The route is about 1.5 miles, very flat, and on sidewalks along neighborhood streets. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions: -- asking everyone to self-screen and not attend if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days -- asking people who are not fully vaccinated to give others at least 6 feet of space while walking, and also to wear a mask at the walk start if it's not possible to socially distance -- keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the event if needed The Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization that promotes walking and biking, and infrastructure and policy changes that create a safe, accessible, and livable city for all. BPAC members are local volunteers who engage hundreds of Alexandria residents and seek solutions to safe walking and biking issues on their behalf.
