Join us for the first of the Environmental Film Festival at Yale (EFFY) speaker series guest lectures, Michel “Goff” Strogoff! Lunch includ.
Michel “Goff” Strogoff is a Malagasy photographer and filmmaker. He specializes in conservation and wildlife photography, working with his partner Chris Scarffe as one half of Madagascar Film and Photography.
Goff grew up in a fishing village on Madagascar’s southwest coast. A member of a semi-nomadic fishing people known as the Vezo, Goff spent a large portion of his life making his living on the sea. In 2009, he began working for the British marine conservation NGO, Blue Ventures, who were operating in his village. Through this work, Goff developed a passion for conservation. He worked with communities in his native region to improve their management of marine resources.
In 2014, he began working as a fixer with independent filmmaker and photographer Chris Scarffe. This led Goff to discover his passion for visual storytelling—documenting Madagascar’s incredible biodiversity and rich culture. He has worked for a wide range of clients including the BBC, Vice on HBO, Blue Ventures, the Durrell Conservation Trust, and the Thompson Reuters Foundation. He has been selected as part of the prestigious Explorer’s Club Inaugural 50 Club, and was recently selected as a judge for the United Nations 2021 World Oceans Day Photography Competition.
