Born out of a student-led photo exhibit, the 32 minute documentary explores tattoos, and what some may call “artistry and body art.” It covers the “whys” of personal canvases straight from the source, while also capturing the journey of a young lady from the Dominican Republic who receives her first tattoo from former VH1 Black Ink Crew reality star tattoo artist/entrepreneur Crystana “Dutchess” Lattimore. Charlotte Latin High School Alumni and former NBA star Anthony Morrow, a tattoo enthusiast, also shares his knowledge of the art form and personal stories of his tattoo journey. This documentary was produced and shot in Charlotte North Carolina by Creating Exposure Through The Arts students and instructors. Through a series of photo workshops, young creatives age ranging from 13 – 30 captured digital images and video of professional athletes, stay at home moms, corporate professionals and residents from cities in North and South Carolina who all have one thing in common ... Ink (tattoos). Select images were included in the BEHIND THE INK Coffee Table Book which is on currently on sale and will be available at the event along with t-shirts and hoodies. Proceeds from the book and merchandise sales continue to help CEA build on almost 20 years of teaching students photography, mentorship and empowerment through the arts.
