Description

Water and care for native oak trees in Trippet Ranch of Topanga State Park! Help heal the Santa Monica Mountains through reforestation. The Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains needs your help to plant and care for over 200 oak trees at Trippet Ranch in Topanga State Park. During this event volunteers will help the RCDSMM care for previously planted oaks by watering, weeding, and mulching trees as well as potentially planting new acorns to replace those trees that may have died. Volunteers will also collect meaningful data to aid in an ongoing reforestation experiment the RCDSMM has been conducting since 2018. Please wear clothes you are willing to get dirty in as well as durable shoes. Be sure to bring a sun hat, layers, a face mask and drinking water. We will be meeting in the parking lot of Trippet Ranch located at 20829 Entrada Road, Topanga, CA 90290. Carpooling to this event is encouraged as parking is limited! We look forward to your help in our efforts to reforest the wildlands of the Santa Monica Mountains! If you are interested in receiving our full schedule, please email our Outreach Coordinator at [email protected]. Please note: the RCD is now requiring that all volunteers be vaccinated before volunteering. The mission of the RCDSMM is to promote land stewardship and resource conservation through ecological research, conservation planning and design, habitat restoration and environmental education, while adhering to the highest standards of transparency and accountability as a public agency. The District encompasses the Santa Monica Mountains from Point Mugu to Topanga State Park and includes the Simi Hills, Santa Catalina Island, Pierce College, Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Area and Chatsworth Reservoir.
