NEWTON, MA — A Newton resident has been named the Eastern Independent League (EIL) Field Hockey Player of the Year.
Jane Bresnahan, a Newton Country Day School junior, earned the honor for exhibiting superior skills and techniques, having exceptional character, and showing good sportsmanship. Recipients of the award contribute to a team's success while representing their school and puts the team goals ahead of self-recognition.
Bresnahan aided in Newton Country Day's Varsity Field Hockey's banner year. The squadplaced 1st in the EIL with an undefeated regular season record and earned the #1 seed in theNew England Preparatory School Athletic Council Class C Tournament, advancing to the NEPSAC championship game.
"Jane is one of the most competitive players I know and a very talented field hockey player,"said Kimberly Southall, Newton Country Day Athletic Director and Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach, in a statement. "She has superior skills and understanding of the game, but at the same time is an unselfish player. She plays the game the way it is supposed to be played - a two way player, distributes the ball, communicates, leads in assists and is a leader on and off the field. Jane is a joy to coach and watch on the field."
In addition to being named Player of the Year, Bresnahan earned EIL All-League honors, All-NEPSAC honors, was voted the team's Most Valuable Athlete, and will co-captain the NCDSteam next year.
