NATICK, MA — If you have a smartphone with a cracked screen or a flat screen TV that won't turn on, there's a new place to get them fixed in Natick. A new uBreakiFix store has opened in a Route 9 shopping plaza, promising quick fixes for small electronics like computers, speakers, drones and video game consoles. The store, located at 843 Worcester Road, will hold a grand opening ceremony on Saturday at noon with discounts on services and snacks for customers. This is the second uBreakiFix to open in the region in recent months. A Milford location opened in August, and there are existing stores in Needham, Hudson and Westborough, plus many more in the Boston area. The chain was started in 2009 in Florida by Justin Wetherill, who was searching for a way to fix a cracked smartphone screen. The chain has grown to almost 700 locations since then. There's also a larger social movement aimed at urging consumers to fix small electronics rather than throwing them away, which can sometimes be easier. The Repair Café organization has set up local chapters across the world — including ones in Sudbury, Bolton and Westborough — where people meet up to get free tools and tips to fix everything from toasters and phones, saving the electronics from the landfill. The Natick Sustainability Committee Meeting has also previously discussed setting up a Repair Café event in town.
