HAMDEN, CT — A 13-year-old student is accused of stabbing another student multiple times in the back during a fight near Hamden High School on Monday afternoon, according to police. Police responded to a stabbing that occurred near a city bus stop on Dixwell Avenue, adjacent to Hamden High School, around 2:15 p.m., according to Detective Sean J. Dolan. School Resource Officer Jeremy Brewer was in front of the school when he was approached by a ninth-grade student who had been stabbed. Brewer escorted the student to the school nurse for treatment, while additional officers and paramedics responded to the scene, according to Dolan. An investigation found that the two students were involved in a fight just off campus, Dolan said. One of the students stabbed the other student multiple times in the back, according to Dolan. Dolan said a small folding knife was found by police and seized as evidence. The 14-year-old victim was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with multiple stab wounds to the back. Dolan said the student's condition wasn't immediately known. The 13-year-old suspect, also a ninth grader, is in police custody and criminal charges are pending, according to Dolan. Police are continuing to investigate and anyone with information or video of the fight is asked to contact Detective Andrew Lipford at 203-230-4055.
