Description

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Two emaciated dogs were rescued in Portsmouth the morning of Thanksgiving. One later died due to the severity of neglect, police said. The dogs were found at the Gardner Seveney Sports complex and reported to police around 7 a.m. Both were lethargic and emaciated, police said, and appeared to have been abandoned there. Both of the dogs are female. Police nicknamed the darker one Turkey and the lighter one Gravy. They were rushed to an emergency veterinarian, where they received treatment for neglect. Later that day, Turkey was euthanized due to the severity of her condition, police said. Gravy is still at the vet's and her condition is improving. She will later be released to the Potter League for Animals for more rehabilitation. Anyone with information about who abandoned the animals is urged to reach out to Portsmouth police at 401-683-0994 or 401-683-0300.
