First, today's weather: Mostly sunny. High: 66 Low: 41. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: One person has died in a collision involving an ambulance just before midnight Friday. The ambulance, belonging to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, was transporting a patient when it was involved in a collision near the intersection of Fulton Avenue and Hurley Way. Another car may have been involved in the collision. The cause of the incident is being investigated by CHP. The victim died at the scene. The person being transported in the ambulance was taken to the hospital in a different ambulance. (FOX40) Emily Blake-Kessel donated her Chevy 1500 truck to the Sacramento Children's Home back in 2015. Six years later, the City of Salinas sent Emily a letter saying she owed $77.00 for a June 2021 parking ticket citing the truck for having no license plates. Emily said she removed the plates before donating the truck and filled out a Release of Liability form with the DMV. But she said Salinas wouldn't drop the ticket. If Emily didn't pay the ticket, the city threatened to take her tax refund. Once the media got involved, thankfully, the ticket was dropped. (CBS Sacramento) One man is hurt after Sacramento police said he was shot following an argument. The shooting happened near the 2000 block of K Street in Midtown around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Police say the shooting followed an argument that escalated into the shooting. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. (ABC10) Each year, the Lower Mokelumne River Watershed Stewardship Steering Committee awards the Frank R. Beeler Stewardship Award to someone who works hard to protect the local watershed. This week the steering committee named Sacramento's Jessa Kay Cruz to receive the 2021 award. Cruz is the senior pollinator conservation specialist for The Xerces Society, an international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats. Since joining Xerces in 2008, Cruz has worked in agricultural and natural lands to create habitats for pollinators and other beneficial insects, and to promote practices that support them. (Lodi News-Sentinel) Last week, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) announced they are collaborating with the already successful program known as the Friends of San Quentin News bring a new writer's guild to the Folsom Women's Facility (FWF) inside Folsom Prison. the unique partnership will offer Folsom Women's Facility's incarcerated people journalism training, professional development and mentoring, with the goal of establishing a newsroom staff at Folsom Women's Facility that regularly contributes content to the San Quentin News. The program will consist of an initial group of 10 participants at Folsom Women's Facility who will go through a 26-week journalism training program led by outside advisors and volunteers from area educational facilities, community newspapers and more.
