LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange experienced the most weekly coronavirus cases in a month, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. As of Sunday, the village had 2,020 cases since the pandemic's beginning, up 39 from the previous week. The week before last, the village experienced 30 new cases. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths in La Grange increased by one in the last week, to 38. The latest deaths were Nov. 18, Nov. 10 Sept. 17, Sept. 14, May 24, May 22, May 14 and Feb. 13. All the local deaths have been those who were over 50, according to the medical examiner. The figure compares to 100 in Darien, 113 in DuPage County, 114 in Hinsdale, 117 in Elmhurst, 118 in La Grange Park, 122 in Clarendon Hills, 124 in suburban Cook County, and 127 in Western Springs. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,784,900, a 1.2 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 26,313. Nationally, 47.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 2.9 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 773,779 people have died from the virus in the United States.
