PORTLAND, OR —A 20-year-old Washington man has died from the injuries he suffered as a pedestrian in a Nov. 21 hit-and-run crash in northeast Portland, KATU reported Monday.
Portland police said officers had discovered the man fighting for his life after they responded to a call about a knife fight.
Neri Ramirez-Mendoza, from Tacoma, died at a local hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries in an incident police said they believe was a crash, rather than a driver targeting the victim.
According to KPTV, just after 1 a.m. that night, North Precinct officers were called to a parking lot in the 4400 block of Northwest 122nd Avenue after calls about "fifteen people fighting with knives."
But when officers arrived, they found Ramirez-Mendoza suffering from injuries "consistent with those of being hit by a vehicle."
Police said the vehicle that allegedly hit Ramirez-Mendoza was no longer in the parking lot.
Medical personnel quickly took Ramirez-Mendoza to a nearby hospital. But police revealed Monday that he had died of his injuries.
The Portland Police asks anyone with information about the incident to contact [email protected] attention: Traffic Investigations Unit, or to call (503)823-2103, and reference case number 21-325657.
