OAK BROOK, IL — An armed man is accused of claiming he worked for an energy company and demanding that a couple let him in their Oak Brook house early Thanksgiving evening, authorities said.
Sean Anderson, 24, of Westchester, was arrested on felony counts of armed violence, attempted home invasion, attempted residential burglary and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. His bond was set at $750,000.
Shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday, a resident on Glenoble Court in Oak Brook heard knocking at the back door. Believing it was her husband, she opened it. She found Anderson had opened the screen door, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
Anderson then said he worked for an energy firm and demanded to be let in, prosecutors said. She refused, shut the door and called for her husband. When the husband arrived, Anderson, with a gun in his hand, again said he was with the energy company and demanded he be let in, police said. When the husband refused, Anderson ran through the back yard toward Roosevelt Road, according to the release.
Officers caught him less than a quarter mile away on Roosevelt Road near the Interstate 294 ramp. They noticed a loaded gun under Anderson as they rolled him over from his stomach to his back, prosecutors said.
Anderson is on parole for a 2018 carjacking in Cook County, police said.
"It is alleged that on Thanksgiving night, Mr. Anderson armed himself with a handgun and shattered the tranquility of an innocent couple's Thanksgiving evening." DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said. "Thankfully, the homeowners were not physically hurt. I want to remind homeowners not to open their doors to anyone they are not expecting or who does not have the proper credentials."
