CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A delivery driver was carjacked at gunpoint Saturday night while her mother and daughter were in the car, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said. According to police, the 46-year-old driver was called to the 1100 block of Werline Avenue in Ford Heights at around 7 p.m. to deliver a McDonald's order through the DoorDash app. When she arrived, the woman told officials the home appeared to be abandoned. While she was looking for a place to drop the food off, the woman noticed two men walking toward her car, where her 11-year-old daughter and 64-year-old mother were waiting. "She ran back toward the vehicle, screaming for the men not to hurt them and for her mother and daughter to get out of the vehicle," the Cook County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. While the driver locked the car doors when she first noticed the men, one of them pointed a gun at the window of the vehicle and ordered the two to get out of the car. The other man was also carrying a gun, police said. The mother and child got out of the car and both men jumped into the vehicle and sped away. According to witnesses, both men were wearing hooded sweatshirts and facemasks. Sheriff's deputies are searching for the car, a black 2018 Mazda 3 with Illinois plates that read CH62717, and ask anyone with information to call the sheriff's office at 708-865-4896. A spokesperson for the sheriff's office told Patch that motorists should "exercise caution" if they see a person or circumstance that raises their suspicion.
