CLEVELAND — Two major Ohio companies announced layoffs and furloughs in November. The Progressive Casualty Insurance Program in Mayfield is eliminating its commercial auto insurance procedure group, and laying off 76 people in the process. All employees will have their final day of work on New Year's Eve, according to the letter filed with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. First Transit in Columbus is laying off 114 employees. The firm lost the Central Ohio Transit Authority contract, according to its letter to ODJFS, and now expects to close its Columbus facility. All employees will have their last day on New Year's Eve.
