RIVERHEAD, NY — A second man has been arrested and charged after gunshots were fired on the property of a Sound Avenue residence in Calverton in October, police said. According to Riverhead Police, on Monday, detectives, in conjunction with the United States Marshals Service Task Force, arrested Adrian Johnson, 18, of Riverhead; he was charged with first-degree attempted assault and first-degree reckless endangerment, police said. Johnson was also charged and indicted on two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm and reckless endangerment, police said. The charges followed the previously reported arrest of Demario Weston, Jr., 19, also of Riverhead, on October 22; Weston was charged with first-degree attempted assault and first-degree reckless endangerment, police said. Johnson was processed on the reported charges and held for arraignment; Weston remains in custody at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility, police said. According to Riverhead Town Police, the gunshots were fired during a dispute at a Calverton home on October 4 at 7:50 p.m., causing damage to a kitchen and vehicles, police said. When police arrived, they secured the area and determined that no one had been injured, authorities said. A dispute broke out between the resident of the home and three people in a black, four-door sedan, police said. Gunshots were fired from inside the vehicle, striking the kitchen inside the home and four vehicles parked at the home, causing damage, police said. Although the resident and the people inside the vehicle did not know one another, the incident was not believed to be random, police said. The investigation is ongoing; anyone with information is asked to call Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential.
