Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of sixty-five employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need. We seek an Expediting Assistant to assist with preparing meal bags for delivery to clients. The Assistant will: • Organize and label delivery bags according to route; • Pack meals into grocery bags, then pack the grocery bags into insulation bags; • Periodically check and log temperatures in walk-in refrigeration units; • Instruct and oversee volunteers working in the Expediting area; and • Clean, stock, and organize Expediting area and walk-in refrigerators and freezers. This is a great opportunity for someone who is well-organized and enjoys working with others. The successful candidate will have at least one year of relevant experience, such as working in a supermarket or food bank. Other requirements include the ability to work efficiently; ability to maintain a well-organized workspace; ability to provide clear verbal instructions to others; ability to lift up to 50 pounds and be physically mobile; and an appreciation for diversity. Must remain patient and professional under pressure.
