HICKORY GOLF!
The Northwest Hickory Players’ 9th annual New Year’s Day outing on Saturday, January 1, 2022 has been scheduled at North Shore Golf Course in northeast Tacoma.
We have 7 tee times reserved starting at 10:00 a.m. Greens fees are $42 plus sales tax, to be paid on the day of play. We will collect $15 from each player prior to the round for the game and KP’s. The game for New Year’s Day will be 3-2-1 Cha Cha Cha. This will be a team event with 3 net scores totaled on the first hole, 2 net scores on the second hole, one net score on the third hole, then starting over again on the fourth hole with 3 net scores, and so on. The gentlemen will tee off from the orange tees at 5,442 yards and the ladies will play from the yellow tees at 4,505 yards.
This Northwest-style 18-hole public golf course of Douglas fir and Sequoia opened in 1961 and was designed by Al Smith. Over the past few years, a new pro shop has been built and plans are in the works for a new restaurant and clubhouse.
After a successful three day event in the Portland area in July of 2013, the group was officially organized as the Northwest Hickory Players on January 1, 2014 following a round at ChambersBay. The goal of this group is to preserve and promote hickory golf in the traditions of bygone days when golfers, wearing knickers and other period clothing, played with brassies, spoons mashies and niblicks.
We’re all about hickory golf. That’s it. No modern events, no hybrid events, just pre-1935 hickory play for the love of the game. We invite players from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia to join us by contacting one of us below. Loaner/rental sets available too! We have plenty. Come, join us!
