Volunteers are needed to help clean Bridge 1 known near the Mount Vernon Estates. Volunteers will apply cleaner and scrub deck boards. The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail will be cleaning Bridge 1 just north of the Mount Vernon Estates. This bridge is known for causing crashes for cyclists due in part to mold and moss accumulation. We'll be working to remove it to prevent crashes. Volunteers will perform the following work: Applying a cleaning solution to deck boardsScrubbing deck boards with a brushRemoving excess water with a squeegeeThis work involves strenuous scrubbingWhat to Bring: WaterGloves (We'll have a few pair on hand as well)Safety Vest (We'll have some of these on hand as well)Where to Meet: Bridge 1 is the first bridge on the trail just north of the Mount Vernon Estates. You can find it's approximate location by entering PW89+RH Mt Vernon, Virginia in Google Maps. It is an 8 minute walk from the Mount Vernon Estates parking lot. COVID Safety Precautions: All volunteers are expected to wear a face covering and maintain at least 6 feet of distance from other volunteers. All equipment will be sanitized prior to use. We'll have some hand sanitizer available. We'll have gloves and bright safety vests to use but recommend bringing your own if you have them.
