Seeking Keys for Improvisational Rock Project

Meets

Oakland CA

Description

Hi there, we are seeking a versatile and skilled piano player for an improvisation based rock/funk/jam project of primarily originals but also fun covers. Looking for someone with a good ear and great vibe. Ideally your sound would encompass, piano, e-pianos, organ, synths, and ambient effects. Vox a plus. Broad influences include rock, funk, jazz, prog, folk, experimental, classical, latin, and ambient music. Bands we are inspired by include Phish, MMW, Zappa, Floyd, Hendrix, Claypool, Miles Davis, Monk, Allman Bros., Coltrane, Bob Dylan, James Brown, Meters, Talking Heads, Gorillaz, Justice, Beatles, Stanley Clarke, John Zorn, Bach, Chopin, Mussorgsky, Wilco, Grateful Dead, Snarky Puppy, Astor Piazzolla. Some compositions include composed piano parts and odd time signatures from time to time, so ability to handle specific repertoire is important, as is the ability to create sweeping textural vistas and support compelling open-form improvisations. Desire and availability to gig and perform at a high-level is a must. Rehearsals 4-6x month. Looking to play 15-25 shows per year. Band members must come to rehearsal knowing their parts to maintain a spot in the band. Please drop a line with some samples of your playing and describe a bit about what draws you to this genre of music. Thanks!
