DARIEN, IL — Darien's weekly coronavirus case count dropped to the lowest point in a month, according to the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, Darien had seen 2,157 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 20 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 34 new cases. The city's number of coronavirus deaths increased by two in the last week, to 27. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. The figure compares to 113 in DuPage County, 114 in Hinsdale, 117 in Elmhurst, 118 in La Grange Park, 122 in Clarendon Hills, 124 in La Grange and suburban Cook County, and 127 in Western Springs. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,784,900, a 1.2 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 26,313. Nationally, 47.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 2.9 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 773,779 people have died from the virus in the United States.
