Each session is interactive with plenty of opportunities for creativity and social learning experiences that inspire, motivate, and engage the adult participant. While each session is meant to build on the previous session(s), each class can be purchased 'a la carte'. About your instructor: Dr. Nasim Bahadorani received her terminal degree in public health from Loma Linda University. She holds a master’s degree in biomedical science from Midwestern University. Her strong background in biomedical sciences, coupled with her education and experience in public health provides a unique expertise in understanding pathways of disease, and knowing the strategic models and systems to prevent them. She serves as a Wellness Program Consultant for health clinics and the Wellness Director of an integrative medical center. Dr Bahadorani also co-instructs 3 stress reduction courses at UC Davis. She is currently writing a book on stress reduction and health. Week 1: Lifestyle Interventions for the Prevention, Management, and Reversal of Chronic Disease Thursday, January 13th from 5-6:30 pm A growing body of scientific evidence demonstrates that lifestyle health behavior change is an essential component in the treatment of chronic disease. Making those lifestyle changes can be challenging for so many reasons. In addition to learning about key lifestyle interventions, you'll learn about goal setting, which will be expanded upon in Week 2. Week 2: Achieving Optimal Health and Wellness Thursday, January 20th, 5-6:30 pm Between busy schedules, mounds of conflicting information, and everything else life throws at us, trying to improve your health can be a struggle, especially if you feel stuck trying to make progress on your own. In this class, we’ll identify wellness goals and create achievable and sustainable action steps towards those goals. Week 3: Nutrition for Stress Reduction Thursday, January 27th, 5-6:30 pm What we eat can have a significant impact on our stress levels, as well as our mental and emotional health. This week's class will teach you simple techniques for healthful and delicious meals that support stress reduction, mental health, and overall well being. Week 4-6: Healthy Cooking Classes Thursday, February 3rd, 10th, & 17th, 5-6:30 pm Time to get in the kitchen! Put the information you've learned in the first three classes into action by preparing healthy meals alongside Dr. Nasim. Week 4 will focus on the Persian breakfast and ancient traditional techniques for balancing cold and warm characteristics of food for optimal functioning. In Weeks 5 and 6, we'll explore creative and delicious approaches to nutrition that aim to keep us healthy throughout winter using local, seasonal ingredients. We’ll also learn how to make homemade decaffeinated teas for soothing after dinner digestion. In accordance with Yolo County health and safety guidelines, masks must be worn during this class except when actively eating and drinking.
