Chicago’s beloved band of in-demand music biz ringers - Kelly Hogan and Nora O’Connor (Neko Case, Mavis Staples, The Decemberists), Scott Ligon and Casey McDonough (NRBQ) and Alex Hall (J.D. McPherson) are back in action - live and in-person! For over 15 years, these shameless harmony junkies have come together in their off-time to make music as The Flat Five. Their 2016 debut album It’s a World of Love and Hope scored big with critics and fans alike (including high-profile Flat Five fanatics like Nick Lowe and Wilco) and their 2020 follow-up effort, Another World, kept the flame burning bright. From the laid-back simple to the oddly romantic to the slightly subversive, there is a heart of wide-eyed sweetness coloring The Flat Five’s music. The charms of this band are manifest — in-the-pocket harmonies, a vast genre-hopping and loveably diverse repertoire, the infectious energy of their sold-out live shows, and their undeniable love for the music and each other. At The Venue, we book nationally-recognized talent in all genres of music from blues and big band, to rock and world music, and everything in between. Frequently, our opening acts feature regional and local musicians and songwriters. Our listening room seats 200 with no obstructed views, and our outdoor stage area can fit several hundred festival fans. The Venue is operated by the Fox Valley Music Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to music education, promotion and preservation.
