Day 1 is a comprehensive overview on the transition, setup and implementation of your Sony Alpha Mirrorless Cameras and taught by two-time Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Greg Gibson. Day 2 is an introduction to video for still photographers and taught by Sony Artisan of Imagery Patrick Murphy-Racey. Day 1 Course Description: Proven Best Practices to Harness the Amazing Power Inside of the Sony Alpha Camera System! Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras are by far the most technologically advanced camera systems available to photographers today. As such, many photographers find it daunting to decipher the menus and configure their cameras for optimal setup and use. These cameras are different – they think differently and they operate differently in many ways from traditional DSLR cameras. Quite often, photographers get frustrated making the transition simply because they don’t understand these differences and why the Sony cameras work the way they do. This class will ease your transition into the Sony mirrorless system and help you walk away with a better understanding of the capabilities built into these incredibly intelligent machines. I’ll help you unlock the amazing technology inside, which in turn will help you become a better photographer and allow you to make more money. Topics include: Menu deep dive to help you get your camera configured in a way that complements your shooting style. Decipher some of the more mysterious menu options like “Location Information Linkage” and how you can apply them to streamline your overall experience. Strategies for Autofocus – learn what mode works best in a given situation. Implement EyeAF for a level of sharpness never before seen in your images. Detailed breakdown of fast, near real-time image transfer and delivery. Wow your clients by delivering images within minutes of capture! Flash setup using Godox and other lighting equipment to help you achieve great results in dark spaces like wedding receptions. At the end of the day, our goal is to give you a better understanding of your camera, what it’s doing and how to configure it in an optimal setup for your style of shooting. We want you to go home with a set of proven “Best Practices” that will put you at ease with your Sony cameras. Combined, these tips will help you become a better photographer and allow you to make more money using your Sony gear. Day 2 Course Description: Don't Touch that Red Button: Overcoming Your Fear of Video! Still photographers with years of experience are often hesitant to consider video as part of their repertoire. To many, video is just another foreign language. Full-frame and crop sensor cameras have capabilities now that make even high-end video capture not only easy but fun and enjoyable. The workshop will start assuming you know nothing. Topics include: Video frame rates and their relationship to shutter-speed The finer aspects of audio capture using real “balanced” microphones. Increased production value by getting the camera off the top of a tripod. Slowly build out an interview kit involving multiple cameras, lenses, microphones & lighting. As we grow the kit participants will switch positions as part of the crew to try their hand at monitoring audio, using a slider, and a gimbal. Light post-production techniques with Adobe Premiere to bring it all together in finished package. The goal here is to provide a solid foundation for working still photographers to gain new tricks that enable them to cash in on the higher day rates commanded by hybrid shooters. Still photographers already possess advanced visual skills that can allow them to start faster and achieve more than even some video professionals with years of experience. We will work together to dispel the fears around touching that red button, gain confidence, and get our hands on the technology that will not only make our lives easier, but richer as well. Additional Information: Please note this class is primarily intended for professionals and advanced amateurs. The equipment demonstrated will consist of the most current Sony Alpha camera models including A9/A9II, A7RIV, A7III and A7RIII. Owners of other types of gear will likely find the information consistent and beneficial but it may or may not directly apply to your specific equipment. The program will run roughly 9:00AM-6:00PM each day. Light refreshments will be served in the morning. Water, soft drinks and snacks will be available throughout. We'll break for lunch from 12-1 both days but hope to keep the group together for additional networking and information sharing during this time. An additional free evening program *may* be available but is TBD and not guaranteed on the evening of March 23.
