MANCHESTER, CT — Well, there is no longer any doubt over one certain traffic rule in the Buckland Hills shopping district in Manchester this holiday season.
A new 'No Turn On Red" sign is so bright those on the space shuttle might be able to see it.
The sign hangs in the middle of the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Buckland Hills Drive where the streets bisect Buckland Street. It designates the right-hand lane coming off Pleasant Valley onto Buckland Street as a no turn on red in bright LED lighting.
Manchester Police Department spokesman Lt. Ryan Shea said the sign was added to the new traffic signals when the divider at the intersection was upgraded over the summer.
Shea said drivers often mistake the right-hand turn lace for an independent entrance onto Buckland Street, which isn't the case. Thus, the area has its fair share of crashes, he said.
"We hope to make the traffic pattern move visible with the new sign," he said.
